PSHE

At Beech Green, we use Jigsaw as the foundation of our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education. Jigsaw is a comprehensive, spiral curriculum that supports children's personal development, emotional wellbeing and mental health while helping them build the knowledge and skills they need to lead healthy, happy and successful lives.

The programme encourages children to develop confidence, empathy, resilience, and also respect for others. Through engaging, age-appropriate lessons, pupils learn how to manage their emotions, build positive relationships, stay healthy, keep themselves safe and become responsible members of the community.

Jigsaw is organised into the following six half-termly themes, known as ‘Puzzles’, which are revisited each year to deepen children's understanding as they grow:

Being Me in My World – developing a sense of belonging, responsibility and understanding of rights and responsibilities.

Celebrating Difference – promoting respect, inclusion, diversity and anti-bullying.

Dreams and Goals – encouraging resilience, aspiration, perseverance and celebrating success.

Healthy Me – learning about physical health, mental wellbeing, healthy lifestyles and making safe choices.

Relationships – developing positive friendships, family relationships, respect and communication skills.

Changing Me – understanding growing up, life changes and Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) in an age-appropriate way.

Jigsaw supports our whole-school values of Respect, Achieve and Belong by helping every child develop the confidence, character and life skills needed to thrive both in school and beyond.
